AND IF YOU CAME ONLY TO TAKE CARE …
Loterie Nationale, Brussels 1998
AND IF YOU CAME ONLY TO TAKE CARE OF THE CARETAKER, WHO WOULD TAKE CARE OF YOU IN YOUR PLACE?
I chose the Loterie Nationale in the Central Tower in Brussels, which was originally built as a hotel. The conciergerie, which has been preserved, was never used as such by the lottery. And was therefore converted in recent years for the wheel of fortune in the number lottery. In order for the falling numbers to have constant conditions for light, temperature and vibration, alterations had been necessary. For example, the original glass façade was lined with panels. I inserted a false floor into the space and placed 10 chairs in holes drilled in it so that they stood on the original floor. The visitors who came by invitation: "and if you came only to take care of the caretaker, who would take care of you in your place?" moved on a false floor, invited to take a seat in the place where the concierge was absent.
