ERL-KING
Project in Progress 2018
The project "Closed Season" used stealth technology to give a hunting high a stealth cap so that it became invisible to radar detection from space. Erlkönig is attempting to camouflage this cover again by means of distraction. As is common with prototype covers in the car industry - called Erlkönig - discarded cardboard boxes that are at the end of the consumer chain are used. These are cast in aluminium as a lost mould. They are now load-bearing and unbalance the fragmented parts of the hunting high. Through form and gloss, they distract from the original function in the context of hunting. At the same time, they are reminiscent of precarious architectures, such as those that might be improvised as dwellings of the homeless. Visibility and invisibility, which play an equally important role in art and hunting, are brought into new relations.
Issues about sculptural form are questioned, as objects of far-off contexts and temporalities are brought together to build a relation. with regards to content and plasticity, it is impossible to define clearly origin and destination. A floating space comes about.
