THE UNSEEN Series
2021
The Unseen Series are a transposition of Equation of Loss 2*, an installation work, into the medium of photography. During Lockdown, I went into the closed museum to record the installation consisting of checkout conveyors and lattice divisions with a kind of hyper-eye, using the iPhone in close proximity along with other cameras. The series The Unseen uses this material. They are simple photomontages of 2-3 shots, without much intervention. I was looking for a spatiality that was unknown to me, which is revealed by the objects.
The close proximity has dissolved their identity as conveyor belts and grid walls. The photographed object disappears because it is too close. Instead, a hidden spatial environment appears that consists of the disappeared object. It is the attempt to start from the given in order to arrive at the "given up", at something new, at something liberated, which cannot be grasped, which is without scale. The materiality of the conveyor belts, which are otherwise incessantly at the service of moving our shopping goods, dissolves into new permeable configurations. Likewise, the dividing lattice walls now seem passable. - The trap of consumption and restriction, the dependence on rising and falling stocks, on statistics, comes to an end when things are just in the process of becoming.
